Transylvania County Arts Council

The Transylvania Community Arts Council (TCAC) is the only organization in Transylvania County providing arts education and programming for residents of all ages, experience levels, and backgrounds — including underserved, economically challenged, and special needs individuals. Through gallery exhibitions, performing arts events, youth classes, and a year-round Arts in Schools program, TCAC serves as a broad-based cultural resource for the county. Number 7 Arts, a cooperative gallery managed by 28 local artists, draws more than 22,000 visitors annually, while TCAC’s on-site gallery hosts 9–10 exhibits per year serving approximately 450 artists and 3,200 visitors. Youth programming reaches more than 3,500 county children through school partnerships, after-school programs, and the Summer Arts Academy.

Lake Toxaway Charities is proud to support two specific initiatives. The first is an expansion of TCAC’s Performing Arts programming through a celebration of Appalachian music — a significant part of Western North Carolina’s cultural heritage. The program will include a concert series featuring local and regional musicians, lectures and panel discussions, film screenings, and hands-on instrument workshops for participants interested in exploring traditional Appalachian instruments. The second is an upgraded security system for TCAC’s facility, which was recently vandalized and hosts frequent evening and weekend events for the community.

TCAC partners with Transylvania County Schools, El Centro, Rise and Shine, Brevard Academy, Heart of Brevard, Brevard College, Blue Ridge Community College, and the Mary C. Jenkins Community Center, among others — reflecting a broad commitment to making the arts accessible and integrated across community life in Transylvania County.
