Rise & Shine has walked alongside working families in Transylvania County for 30 years, providing free, year-round after-school and summer enrichment programming to school-aged youth who need it most. All 32 scholars currently enrolled qualify for free or reduced school meals, and all programming is provided at no cost to students or their families.
During the school year, students receive daily homework assistance, targeted tutoring aligned with teacher feedback, and individualized academic reinforcement in literacy and math. Staff review report cards and maintain direct communication with teachers to identify and address skill gaps before they compound. Enrichment programming — including STEM activities, creative arts, leadership development, and physical recreation — rounds out a model designed to support the whole child. Summer programming continues that momentum, working to prevent learning loss during the months when many students are most at risk of falling behind.
Rise & Shine serves a diverse student body and partners with a broad network of community organizations including Transylvania County Schools, Sharing House, El Centro, TC Strong, and the Boys & Girls Club of Transylvania to ensure families receive comprehensive, coordinated support.
Lake Toxaway Charities is proud to support Rise & Shine and its mission to provide Transylvania County’s most underserved youth with the academic foundation and mentorship they need to thrive.
Will Boyd spoke at our 2021 Charities Gala. Will is quite the success story as a Rise and Shine student in Brevard. We hope you enjoy this video where Will tells how Rise and Shine impacted his educational and career choices.
