Davidson River School is Transylvania County’s only alternative school, serving approximately 60 middle and high school students who are at risk of academic failure or dropping out. In a small, personalized setting, dedicated educators provide academic instruction alongside robust social-emotional learning support — meeting each student where they are and equipping them with the skills they need for a stronger future. Many of the students Davidson River School serves are on track to be first-generation high school graduates, and many have experienced significant trauma. The school’s approach addresses both the academic and emotional dimensions of student success, helping break cycles of generational hardship.
Lake Toxaway Charities is proud to support Davidson River School’s efforts to deepen student engagement and well-being through a range of enrichment initiatives — including a Zaniac STEM Program, equine therapy, educational field trips, and celebrations that recognize attendance and academic achievement. Together, these programs foster motivation, resilience, and a sense of belonging for students who benefit most from knowing that their community believes in them.
