Cindy Platt Boys and Girls Club of Transylvania County

The Cindy Platt Boys & Girls Club is the largest youth development organization in Transylvania County, serving over 250 school-aged children and teens daily through our after-school and summer programs. Their sustainable vision is to invest in these lives, making a lifelong positive impact that shapes their futures and builds a sense of belonging and pride. Many local families rely on the Boys and Girls Club to help their children achieve academic success, adopt healthy lifestyles and cultivate good character and citizenship. Lake Toxaway Charities directly supports the Club’s teen programming, which helps prepare them for career or college success and nurtures a strong sense of civic responsibility and commitment to serving others.

Although The Boys and Girls Club program fees for their afterschool, summer, and spring break programs are affordable to many, the majority of the families they serve live below federal poverty guidelines. Transylvania County families were hit hard financially during the pandemic. Over 50% of the households served last year had annual household income less than $40,000 yet cost of living in Transylvania County is higher than the state average. In 2020 the Boys and Girls Club awarded scholarships for 252 youth or almost 55% of the youth they served last year received a scholarship.

Lake Toxaway Charities approved grants in 2020, 2021, and 2022 to fund scholarships for youth in need to attend year round club activities. These scholarships go to children who could not otherwise afford to attend.
