Mountain School of Strings

Mountain School of Strings is a non-profit music organization committed to providing affordable after-school strings classes for all who are interested. Their curriculum challenges students to play music from classical to traditional mountain tunes. Research indicates that music education gives students an edge when it comes to self-esteem, personal motivation and even academic success. Mountain School of Strings reaches out to students at Transylvania County elementary schools and also teaches at their own Brevard Music Center studio.  With funding from Lake Toxaway Charities, Mountain School of Strings can ensure our programs continue.

Lake Toxaway Charities approved a grant in 2020 to provide scholarships and instruments.

Lake Toxaway Charities approved a grant in 2021 to provide scholarships for 12 students to attend a summer music camp at no cost. These students would have be able to attend our week long camps and participate in private lessons, ensembles, art activities, concerts and perform themselves. In addition, Lake Toxaway Charities approved funding for fall scholarships for in school classes for 12 students. Mountain School of Strings will identify 12 students to attend classes in violin, guitar, viola, cello, mandolin, banjo, piano and songwriting.
