Blue Ridge Mountain Health Project

Blue Ridge Mountains Health Project, better known as the Blue Ridge Free Dental Clinic is the only non-profit provider of free comprehensive dental care in Western North Carolina. With a focus on restoration and prevention, the Clinic’s staff dentist and 13 volunteer dentists treat patients five days a week, and dental hygiene is offered three days a week at no charge to any patient.  It is well-known that limited financial resources are a barrier to dental care. Medicare does not provide any dental services, and while Medicaid provides limited dental assistance, large portions of the needy population, particularly the working poor and elderly, do not qualify for that program. As a result of this, many patients have gone without dental care for years. Blue Ridge Mountain Health Project focus on prevention and dental restoration aims to significantly reduce emergency dental visits.  Lake Toxaway Charities, a financial supporter since 2014, has enabled the Clinic to grow its Hygiene Program and provide regular preventative cleanings for patients.”  For more information, call (828) 743-3393.

Lake Toxaway Charities approved a 2020 grant request to the Blue Ridge Mountain Health Project. This funding will support direct service expenses for the free dental clinic’s restoration and prevention programs. Funding will also expand oral health curriculum for Rosman K-12 students and students at TC Henderson.
