For more than 45 years, Sharing House — operating as Transylvania Christian Ministry, Inc. — has served as one of Transylvania County’s most established and wide-reaching community resources. The organization provides food, clothing, hot showers, household goods, fresh produce, emergency financial assistance, and empowerment programming to low-income residents, serving anyone who earns at or below 200% of the federal poverty line. In a recent year, Sharing House served 2,014 households representing 4,846 individuals, distributed more than 351,000 pounds of food, and provided more than 131,000 meals — supported by an average of 263 volunteers per month across a roster of 240 individuals.
Lake Toxaway Charities is proud to support two distinct and practical needs through this grant. The first is Sharing House’s use of Charity Tracker, a collaborative case management software platform that Sharing House funds and shares with 11 other Transylvania County organizations at no cost to them — allowing agencies across the county to coordinate services and track client needs in a single, shared system. The second is a dedicated emergency assistance fund for senior residents, covering critical needs such as prescription medications, medical visits, utility bills, heating fuel, and rental assistance. In a recent year, Sharing House provided 66 instances of discretionary senior assistance totaling more than $11,000 — representing 37% of all emergency discretionary funding awarded.
Sharing House is a faith-based collaborative supported by 34 congregations, along with individuals, businesses, and civic organizations. Partners include MANNA Food Bank, the Hunger Coalition of Transylvania County, El Centro, Transylvania Vocational Services, and Rise and Shine, among others.
