The Bread of Life is Transylvania County’s only soup kitchen, providing free daily hot meals and pantry groceries to neighbors experiencing food insecurity. Operating on a simple, no-barriers principle, the organization serves more than 1,100 hot meals each week and has more than doubled pantry distribution over the past year — reaching seniors on fixed incomes, working families, single-parent households, unhoused individuals, and residents facing temporary hardship.
In a rural county with limited public transportation and rising food costs, consistent access to nutrition is foundational to health and stability. The Bread of Life fills that gap, and demand has grown accordingly: the organization now distributes more than three times the meals it served just two years ago, totaling more than 60,000 meals annually.
Lake Toxaway Charities is proud to support The Bread of Life’s Daily Hot Meal and Pantry Programs. Grant funding will go directly toward food purchases — including fresh produce, proteins, dairy, and pantry staples — as well as kitchen supplies and operational costs tied to meal preparation. The organization also partners with Manna FoodBank, Meals on Wheels, El Centro, Sharing House, and the Hunger Coalition of Transylvania County to coordinate services and connect guests to additional community resources.
All funds will be used entirely within Transylvania County.
