The mission of Cove Shelter is to provide for the physical and spiritual
needs of homeless individuals and families in Transylvania County.
Cove Shelter operates from November through March and provides
emergency shelter during these coldest months of the year. During those
months of operation, shelter guests are offered a hot meal, a bed to sleep
in, a shower and bathroom, access to the shelter clothing closet, and an
opportunity to wash their laundry each night.

Cove Shelter is almost exclusively operated by volunteers and is open
every day from November to March. Meals are prepared externally and
provided daily by local volunteers and shelter staffing is provided by a
combination of volunteers and a single paid staff member. Lake
Toxaway Charities grant funding in 2023 will allow for additional nights
of paid staffing and support unexpected operating expenses.
