2021 Disaster Relief

Dear Friends,

Our Transylvania County local residents need your help. The upper Transylvania County communities of Lake Toxaway, Balsam Grove, and Rosman were besieged by torrential rains and flooding beginning Sunday evening through Tuesday evening. During this time frame, upper Transylvania County received 18 inches of rain, resulting in severe flash flooding throughout the region. As of the end of day on August 18th, the total estimated assessed damage totals $11,227,000. County officials expect this number to increase significantly from these initial projections as more sites are identified and assessed over the next few days and state and federal leaders continue to examine the magnitude of the damage. Transylvania County is applying for FEMA assistance, but funds will take time to become available. Residents in our community cannot wait. We are in contact with our supported agencies to assess the immediate needs of our community with shelter, food, water, and other necessities of life.

Lake Toxaway Charities is stepping up and responding with this financial help. It will not be a short term need, most likely, the need will be for months, not weeks. The needs in our beloved community are great. Thank you for your response to this county-wide crisis.
