Meals on Wheels Brevard has been delivering hot, nutritious midday meals to homebound seniors and adults with disabilities in Transylvania County since 1978 — including every holiday. In 2025, the organization delivered 20,495 meals to 65–90 clients per week, powered almost entirely by approximately 65 volunteer drivers who use their own vehicles and follow the same routes each week, building consistent relationships with the clients they serve. For many recipients, that regular human contact is as meaningful as the meal itself.
Each meal is prepared by Transylvania Community Hospital under the supervision of a registered dietitian, meeting nutritional standards for cardiac, diabetic, and dental soft diets. At $5.50 per meal, no one is turned away for inability to pay — in 2025, more than 67% of clients received meals at no charge, with others contributing on a sliding scale.
