The Bread of Life plays a vital role in serving the impoverished, disadvantaged, and food-insecure residents of Transylvania County. With a warm, accepting, and non-threatening environment, they serve an impressive number of over 45,000 meals annually and distribute approximately 900 boxes of food for weekend home preparation. As the only community kitchen providing daily hot meals in the county, the Bread of Life fulfills a critical need that is otherwise lacking in consistent and reliable service. Many individuals rely on the Bread of Life to supplement their access to nutritious food.
Recognizing the widespread hunger prevalent throughout Transylvania County, the Bread of Life has expanded its offerings by introducing hot meals and food pantry services every week in Balsam Grove. Looking ahead to the coming year (2021-2022), the Bread of Life aims to further enhance their impact by planning regular deliveries to Little River and/or Rosman.
Since 2005, Lake Toxaway Charities has been a valuable partner to the Bread of Life, providing essential funding for food and capital needs. Thanks to the support of Lake Toxaway Charities, the Bread of Life can continue its mission of sharing meals and love with neighbors in Transylvania County.
